JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University baseball team came up short on Saturday afternoon at Smith-Wills Stadium to LaGrange College by a score of 12-5. With the loss, the Blazers slip to 1-4 to start the 2018 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- An RBI single from Will Costinett scoring Gasper D'Anna in the bottom half of the first put Belhaven ahead 1-0.
- LaGrange would load up the bases in the top of the second as they recorded three runs to pull ahead 3-1.
- The Blazers would get a run back in the bottom of the third thanks to an RBI single from Kreg Garner.
- In the top of the fifth, LaGrange would stretch the lead out to 4-2 after bringing home a runner from third base off of an infield bunt.
- Will Costinett smashed his second home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth on a shot that sailed past the left field wall.
- However, the Panthers would put some pressure on the Blazers' in the sixth inning as they loaded up the bases yet again, and scored five runs on three hits.
- Belhaven was able to reduce the deficit in the next half inning after Justin Acevedo scored off of a wild pitch and then Trip Benson crossed the plate following a sacrifice fly from Cale Hollingsworth.
- LaGrange added three more runs of insurance in the top of the ninth to lead 12-5.
- The Blazers had runners on base in the final three innings of play, but were unable to bring anyone home.

KEY STATISTICS
- Will Costinett finished the afternoon going 3-5 from the plate with two RBI and a home run.
- Trip Benson and Kreg Garner both collected two hits apiece. Additionally, one of Garner's hits ended up as an RBI.
- As a team, the Green and Gold notched 11 hits. The Blazers stranded eight runners on the base path.
- Hunter Sanford got the start on the mound and pitched five full innings. Sanford struck out three batters and gave up four earned runs.
- Tristin Cosby pitched three innings in relief and gave up just two hits.
