Blazers Extend Win Streak to Three Games With 109-79 Win Over MUW

JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University men's basketball team defeated the MUW Owls 109-79 Saturday evening.

With the win, Belhaven improves to 5-5 on the season with a three game winning streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Blazers and Owls remained close throughout the first ten minutes of the game as Belhaven held a slight 25-24

- Over the remaining ten minutes of the half, Belhaven would outscore the owls 39-23 to take a 64-47 lead into the half.

- Five minutes into the start of the second half, the Blazers reached a 20 point lead, 73-63, with a jumper from Tommy McCoy

- Belhaven had all the momentum in the contest as they continued to dominate the second half. 

- With three minutes remaining in the game, Kelvin Pruitts free throw gave Belhaven its first 100 point game of the season. 

- The Blazers were able to play multiple players in the final minutes of the game as they outscored the Owls in the final three minutes 9-4 to claim a 109-79 victory.

KEY STATISTICS

- Six Blazers finished with double digit points. John Works led the Green and Gold with 16 points, followed behind Brosnan Cooks and Kelvin Pruitt with 15 each, Jospeh Jones with 14 points, and Justin Jones and Jonathan Durham with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

- Cooks had a team high 10 rebounds and five assists a long with John Works who had five assists. Additionally, Works had seven rebounds.

- Joshua Roberts ended with eight points and a team high seven assists on the night.

- Belhaven shot 66.7 percent from the field (38-57) and 55.3 percent from field goal territory (16-30).

- As a team, 42 points in the paint and 44 points from the bench.

The Blazers will return to Rugg Arena on Thursday, January 3, to take on Mary-Hardin Baylor in Conference play. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
