ALPINE, Texas - The Belhaven University football shut out the Sul Ross State Lobos 8-0 Saturday night in American Southwest Conference play.
Neither team could generate much offense through the first couple of minutes of the first quarter until Belhaven broke things upon with a Gabriel Wilson one-yard touchdown run with 36 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
Jemoine Green punched in the two point conversion with a run to give the Green and Gold an 8-0 lead.
Belhaven entered the break ahead 8-0 with the lone touchdown from Gabriel Wilson back in the first quarter.
The defense stepped up and played lights out, holding Sul Ross State to a total of 96 yards of offense for the remainder of the game and completing the shut out victory, winning 8-0 over the Lobos.
With the win, the Blazers finished a program best 7th place in the conference since joining the ASC in 2015. The shut out was also the first shut out for the program since it shut out Faulkner University 35-0 on October 27, 2012.
The win concluded the season for the Green and Gold with a record of 2-8 overall and 2-7 in the ASC.
