RICHARDSON, Texas. The Belhaven women's basketball team fell by a final score of 75-57 Thursday evening to UT Dallas in American Southwest Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Blazers looked to be in control at the start of the game, when a Kelsey Brown three point shot found the net to give the Belhaven a quick 3-0 start out of the chute.

- Yet, UT Dallas did not take long to get in a rhythm and take control of the ball game as the Lady Comets quickly tied things up at 3-3. The Blazers would never lead again.

- UT Dallas took a comfortable 23-9 at the end of the first period of play.

-  The Blazers offense was able to add a few more baskets in the second period but the UT Dallas lead continued to grow as the Comets would go into the half up 38-22.

- The Lady Blazers continued to fight for the remainder of the game, however the Comets lead was to much to mount a come back of any sorts. UT Dallas would ultimately go on to win by a final score of 75-57.

KEY STATISTICS

- AaLiyaha Thornton and Alexis Caldwell combined for 54 percent of Belhavens points. Caldwell led the team with 17 total points while Thornton finished with 14 points on the night.

- Caldwell also finished with a team high three steals and seven rebounds. 

- Kelsey Brown capped her night off 2-3 from behind the arc with 6 total points.

- India Sims was a rebound machine as she finished with a team high 10 rebounds, including 7 defensive rebounds and 3 offensive rebounds.

- As a team, the Blazers shot 40 percent from the field.

- Belhaven finished with 22 points in the paint and out rebounded the comets with 36 total rebounds.

The Blazers return home next Saturday when they take on UT Dallas once again in what will be a rematch at Rugg Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
