MARSHALL, Texas – The Belhaven University volleyball team improved their winning streak after defeating East Texas Baptist University 3-2. The win gives the Blazers five wins in a row.
After splitting the first two sets, the Green and Gold took the third set by the score of 26-24.
In the fourth set, ETBU took charge to force a deciding fifth set for the sixth time this season.
In the fifth set, the Blazers got off to an early 2-0 lead and would eventually take the set 15-12.
Ryan Hardin led the team with 13 kills to bring her season total to 114 kills while
Lauren Whiting notched 9 kills, one service ace, two blocks and 18 digs.
Hope Tourney finished the afternoon with seven kills, 24 total attacks, one solo block and one dig.
Sydney McEachern tabbed two total attacks, five assists, two service aces and 32 digs, which was a team high.
Kelly Aholt led the team with 35 assists; she also collected 21 digs in the match.
As a team, the Blazers finished the day with 48 kills, 20 errors and 187 attacks while ETBU had 58 kills, 25 errors, and 204 attacks.
The Blazers are now 11-6 overall and 6-2 in American Southwest Conference play.
The Green and Gold return to action on the road Tuesday, October 3 in Hattiesburg, Miss to face off against William Carey University. The match is set to begin at 6:00 pm.
