Softball Shutout at Hardin-Simmons, 1-0

ABILENE, Texas -- Belhaven softball suffered a series sweep, as they were shutout at Hardin-Simmons 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in the finale of the three game series. The Blazers are now 10-19 on the season, and have lost five consecutive games. In addition, the Green and Gold are now 0-12 in true road games this year. 

The Blazers started the contest off with back-to-back singles from Kaitlyn Blubaugh and Hannah Holloway. Later on in the first, Cassidy Blount drew a two out walk and the bases were full. Unfortunately, the Blazers were unable to capitalize and left three runners stranded.

In the top of the fourth, the game was still scoreless, and Meg Garton reached on a fielder's choice, while Crystal Kechtel singled to center putting runners on the corners with two outs. With another opportunity to get on the board, the Blazers' ended the inning on an infield ground out.

Hardin-Simmons scored the only run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth off an RBI single to center field.  Lauren Feagin started in the circle for the Blazers in game three. Feagin surrendered one run in 3.1 innings of work. Taylor Surrento, who pitched in game one of the series, tossed the final 2.2 innings of action in relief.  

Belhaven would strand another base runner in the sixth after Savannah Lyon reached base on a single to center field. The Green and Gold collected four hits as a team in the defeat.

On offense, Belhaven went down in order in the second, third, fifth, and seventh innings of play. HSU totaled seven hits as a team in the game. Lexie Allen threw a complete game shutout in the circle for the Cowgirls, who now improve to 15-15 on the year.

Belhaven will stay on the road next week with a doubleheader against Huntingdon in Montgomery, Ala. on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
