JACKSON, Miss. - With the Maloney Trophy on the line, the Belhaven baseball team fell to the Millsaps Majors, 10-0, on Tuesday evening inside Smith-Wills Stadium to conclude the 2017 Cowboy Maloney Series.
Since Belhaven's transition to NCAA Division III, in the six games against the Majors, the visitors have won five of the six games, including all three this season.Â
The Majors (10-12) will retain the Maloney Trophy, which was established in 2002. Belhaven is now 20-19 against the Riverside Rival since the start of the Maloney Series.Â
Millsaps started the contest with two runs in the second inning, and added two runs each in the third and fifth before making it a run-rule victory with a four-run seventh.Â
The Green and Gold (12-9) were held hitless through 3.1 innings before
Terrell Hodges broke the no-hit bid with a single up the middle.
The Blazers' best chance of scoring came in the sixth. Following a lead-off single by
Julyan Urena and a flyout, Hodges coaxed a walk off of Milsaps starter Kenny Wright. After a flyout moved Urena to third and a stolen base by Hodges later in the frame, the rally would be cut short thanks to a groundout.Â
Wright (2-1) tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout, striking out four while allowing four hits and two walks.Â
David Hall (3-2) started for BU and suffered the loss, going three innings, allowing four runs, two earned.Â
Belhaven will next host Concordia Texas in ASC play. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m. from Smith-Wills.Â
