JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven men's basketball team wraps up the 2016-17 season this week, hosting East Texas Baptist University Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Louisiana College at 3 p.m. on Saturday for Senior Day.
Belhaven (4-19) will look to put an end to a three-game losing streak when it faces off against East Texas Baptist on Thursday. Prior to that, the Blazers had won two games in a row versus the University of the Ozarks.
Junior forward
Brandon Pressley is leading the team with 14.7 points and 8.9 rebounds per game on 62 percent shooting. Junior point guard
Ron Davis is averaging 13 points and 6.0 assists while sophomore guard
Brent Webber is contributing 10.1 points on 45 percent three-point shooting.
On Saturday, the Blazers will honor their lone senior, forward
DJ Young-Beasley. Young-Beasley is averaging 5.0 points and ranks second on the team in both rebounds per game (4.0) and three-point shooting percentage (.403). The Hot Coffee, Miss. native has racked up 230 points, 186 rebounds and 58 made three-pointers in four seasons with the Green and Gold.
East Texas Baptist
East Texas Baptist (14-10) will be playing its final game of the regular season on Thursday versus the Blazers. The Tigers have won just three of its past nine games after beginning the season at 11-4. ETBU has just a 3-7 mark this season in road games.
Senior forward Jordan Quillian is averaging a team-high 13.8 points and 7.8 rebounds while senior guard Dylan Augustine is chipping in with 10.3 points on 41 percent three-point shooting.
ETBU ranks in the top half of the ASC in both scoring offense (81.2) and scoring defense (76.6). The Tigers also rank third in the conference in field goal percentage (.470) and fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.356).
Belhaven dropped a 102-55 decision in a previous matchup with the Tigers this season on Jan. 14 in Marshall, Texas.
Louisiana College
Louisiana College (8-14) has won four of its past five contests and is coming off of a 90-85 victory over the Ozarks. The Wildcats have won just one game on the road this season while collecting nine losses.
LC ranks second in the ASC in steals per game (8.8) and third in turnover margin (+1.55).
Senior forward Raheem Regis is averaging a team-high 17 points and 8.9 rebounds on 55 percent shooting. Freshman guard Taylan Grogan is adding 13.3 points per game and has scored 20.4 per game over his last 10 contests.
Belhaven fell 82-71 to Louisiana College in Pineville, La. on Jan. 12.
