JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University volleyball team swept the Mississippi University for Women volleyball squad in straight sets with a 3-0 victory on senior night in nonconference play on Friday evening at Rugg Arena.

Before the match, the Blazers honored their three seniors Kelly Aholt, Allie Perkins, and Blaykleigh Smythe.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Belhaven used a dominating net attack to pace their offense throughout the match as MUW was unable to sustain any momentum.

- In the first set, the Blazers jumped out to an 11-5 lead and never looked back.

- With five service aces in the opening set, Belhaven rolled to an easy 25-16 set win as Jackie Fredericks registered the set-winning kill.

- The Blazers continued their stellar play with another impressive set in the second. The Green and Gold were out in front 14-6 before MUW needed a timeout.

- Moments later, the Blazers would rip off six straight points to build a 21-12 advantage as they once again cruised to another set victory by a score of 25-15.

- Belhaven started off slow in the third set and trailed 4-1 before tying up the set at 11-11.

- The Blazers finally caught their rhythm with two service aces from Allie Perkins, followed by kills from Ryan Hardin and Blaykleigh Smythe to win four straight points and hold a 15-11 lead.

- The Blazers had MUW off balance for the remainder of the set, as the Owls committed two more costly errors in the last two points of the set to seal the match for Belhaven with a 25-17 set win.

- Senior Blaykleigh Smythe connected on a team-high 10 kills.

- Senior Kelly Aholt finished with 24 assists.

- Senior Allie Perkins led the Blazers with 10 digs.

- Jackie Fredericks added three service aces.

- Perkins, Katy Grace Abbott, and Smythe both tallied two service aces each.

- Belhaven posted 11 total service aces along with 30 kills.

- The Green and Gold collected a hitting percentage of .234 in the victory.

- The Blazers limited MUW to only 17 kills and forced  the Owls into committing 13 errors.
