Green and Gold Fall to UT Dallas in ASC East Play

RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven women's basketball team fell in American Southwest Conference East play to UT Dallas, falling to the Comets, 76-48, on Thursday night inside the UTD Activities Center.

The Blazers (10-8) got out to an early 6-0 lead after 3-point baskets by Vamikka Smith and Sierra Pittman, but the Comets (16-3) only allowed two more points in the quarter, outscoring the Green and Gold 17-2 in the final 6:16 of the first quarter.

One of the best defensive teams in the ASC held up to the hype, as they allowed 48 points, six points better than the average of 54 per game, and limited the Blazers to their second-lowest performance from the field this season at 27.7 percent.

Sierra Pittman led the Green and Gold with 14 points and four assists.

Samara Dingiswayo and Vamikka Smith each scored 10 points for the Blazers, while Erika Smith drained two 3-pointers for six points.

Alyssa Crockett led UTD with 19 points, while Kayla Reinhardt totaled 15 points for the winners. The lone double-double of the night belonged to Micaela Gonzalez, who scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Blazers return to the hardwood Saturday afternoon to wrap up their two-game road swing against the Ozarks. Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Clarksville, Ark.
