RICHARDSON, TEXAS - The Belhaven men's basketball team dropped an 89-63 decision to the University of Texas at Dallas Thursday evening in Richardson, Texas.
Belhaven (2-16) held the Comets to just 42 percent shooting from the field and 19 percent from beyond the arc in the first half, but UT Dallas (6-13) exploded for 52 second half points on 55 percent shooting.
The Blazers never led in this one, but did keep the score close for the majority of the first period. Freshman guard
Isiah Brown had back-to-back buckets late in the first half to get the Blazers within seven of the Comets, 25-18.
After UT Dallas had stretched its lead to 14, sophomore guard
Brent Webber drilled a long three just before halftime to make the score 37-26. Webber nailed three shots from downtown in the first half for all nine of his points in the game.
Junior point guard
Ron Davis and junior forward
Brandon Pressley connected for back-to-back scores to open the second half, trimming UTD's lead back to seven.
But Belhaven was unable to cut into the Comets lead any further, and a 12-4 run late in the game turned a 15-point lead into a 24-point advantage for UT Dallas.
Davis finished with 15 points, six assists and five rebounds to lead the way for Belhaven. Brown chipped in with 11 points off the bench while freshman guard
Rick Hodum added 10 points and a career-high eight rebounds.
Dimitrius Underwood paced the Comets with 24 points on 11-for-12 shooting. Caleb Banks and Reagan Keogh added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Next up, the Blazers travel to Clarksville, Ark. on Saturday, Jan. 28 to face the University of the Ozarks. That game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tip.
