Men's Basketball Preview: Louisiana College and ETBU

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven men's basketball team returns to the court on Thursday, taking on Louisiana College in Pineville, La. before heading to Marshall, Texas on Saturday to face East Texas Baptist University. Thursday's game in Pineville tips at 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's game will begin at 3 p.m. 

Belhaven (2-10, 0-6 ASC) enters Thursday's matchup with Louisiana College looking to break a seven game winless streak. The Blazers are coming off of a 97-75 loss to ASC West leader Sul Ross State on Saturday. Prior to that, the Blazers had dropped their past four games by an average deficit of just 4.3 points per loss. 

Junior guards Ron Davis and Kyle Patterson both played some of their best basketball of the season last week. Davis averaged 16 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists in three games, and scored a career-high 22 points versus Sul Ross. Patterson recorded a career-high 15 points in a 72-71 loss to Howard Payne and followed that up with a 10 point performance against Sul Ross. 

Louisiana College 
Louisiana College (2-10, 0-7 ASC) has dropped its last six games, with their last victory coming on Dec. 10 versus Rust College. The Wildcats' only other win of the season was a 70-50 victory over Millsaps College Nov. 26. 

The Wildcats do a good job of forcing turnovers, ranking second in the ASC in both opponents turnovers (16.9) and steals per game (8.9). They also rank fifth in field goal percentage (.460), but are last in three-point percentage (..290) and three-pointers made (49).

Senior forward Raheem Regis is averaging 16.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game to lead Louisiana College while senior forward Steve Evans has chipped in with 13.8 points and eight boards per contest. 

Louisiana College won both matchups with Belhaven last season, defeating the Blazers 69-62 in Jackson on Jan. 14 and taking a 82-56 victory in Pineville on Feb. 18. 

East Texas Baptist University
East Texas Baptist (10-4, 3-4 ASC) is coming off of a 75-69 loss at Mary Hardin-Baylor Wednesday evening. Prior to that, the Tigers had reeled off six consecutive wins, dating back to Dec. 10. The Tigers are a perfect 7-0 in non-conference, and have won three of their past four conference bouts as well. 

ETBU boasts a high-powered offense, ranking fifth in the ASC in scoring (83.1), third in field goal percentage (.470) and second in three-point field goal percentage (.369). The Tigers have scored at least 85 points in a game six times this season. 

Senior forward Jordan Quillan is averaging a team-high 13.9 points and ranks second in the ASC in field goal percentage (.643). Senior guard Dylan Augustine has added 9.4 points per game while shooting 37.7 percent from behind the arc. 

The Blazers dropped two games to ETBU last season, falling 66-56 in Jackson on Jan. 16 and 78-66 in Marshall on Feb. 18.
