MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Belhaven football team fell to No. 19 Huntingdon College, 65-21, Saturday afternoon inside Samford Stadium.Â
Huntingdon (3-0) jumped out to a 10- 0 lead but a 63-yard touchdown pass from
Hunter McEachern to
Kevin Shief at the 3:10 mark of the first quarter cut the Hawks' lead down to three points.Â
Huntingdon's Luke Bailey threw a 36-yard strike to Zach Camp early in the second quarter for another Hawks touchdown before
Jaquay Daniels caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from
Clayton Webb to make it a 17-14 game with 9:48 to play in the first half.Â
But before the half was over, Bailey would throw for two more touchdowns and run for another, and the Blazers entered the halftime break trailing 38-14.Â
Huntingdon outscored the Blazers 27-7 in the second half to hand Belhaven (1-2) its second straight road loss to a ranked opponent. The highlight of the second half for the Blazers was a 49-yard touchdown catch from Daniels.Â
Belhaven recorded 464 yards of total offense, 444 of which came through the air. McEachern finished with 329 yards and two touchdowns while Webb totaled 115 yards and one touchdown.Â
Daniels led the receiving corps with 113 yards on five catches. Shief collected 97 yards through the air while
LaMiquell Roberts recorded a game-high seven catches. Nine different Blazers recorded at least one reception.Â
Denarrius Noel led the defensive effort for the Blazers, totaling a game-high nine tackles.
Jack Lacy and
RaShun Smith added seven tackles each.Â
The Blazers will have a week off before returning to the field on Oct. 1, hosting No. 18 East Texas Baptist at 1 p.m.Â
