JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Softball team opened up its series with Concordia Texas on Friday with a 9-0 victory for the Blazers at Jim McLeod Field.
The Blazers used five consecutive singles to score four runs in the first inning and never looked back.
Hannah Holloway started the run for the Blazers with a walk.
Makenzie Hawkins then singled followed by a single from
Carly Yasses to put the Blazers on the score board.
Savannah Lyon and
Haley Yasses followed it up with RBI singles to put the Blazers up 3-0.
Taylor O'Dell then singled to load the bases and
Crystal Kehtel followed it up with a bases loaded walk for the fourth and final run of the inning.
Hawkins started a four run inning in the second for the Blazers with a one-out walk.
Carly Yasses then doubled to left center and Hawkins scored from first.
Lyon followed it up with a single to put runners on the corners.
Haley Yasses then doubled to right center, scoring Carly and Lyon to put the Blazers up 7-0.
Kehtel again capped the scoring for the inning with an infield single to the hole on the left side of the infield.
Haley Yasses would cap the scoring in the fourth inning with a RBI single to score Hawkins.
Julienne Broussard pitched a complete game shutout for the Blazers, scattering five hits with six strikeouts to earn her fifth win of the season.
Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was suspended in the top of the fourth inning and will be resumed on Saturday at 11 am.
