JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven Baseball improves to 4-2 on the current 11-game home stand with a 10-0 shutout of Tougaloo College on Monday afternoon at Smith-Wills Stadium.
Now 9-4 overall, Belhaven's offense started right out of the gate, when
Terrell Hodges launched a two-run homerun to left center field, extending his hitting streak to eight games.
The Blazers added a single run in the third and fourth innings.
Jacob Byrd scored the third inning run off a wild pitch.
Dane Gecina scored the fourth run of the game with an RBI double, extending his on-base streak to 10 games.
Leading 4-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Blazers blew the game open by scoring four times in the frame. Hodges started the scoring with an RBI infield single to the Bulldog shortstop. The next batter,
Adam Kowalczyk, drove in Hodges and
James Peterson on a two-run single. Two batters later,
Will Mullen drove in the fourth run of the inning with an RBI single, scoring Kowalczyk.
The Blazers added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the contest 10-0 via run rule. Peterson scored
Colton Fontana for the ninth Blazer run on a groundout.
Nick Rucker ended the game with an RBI single, scoring
Ryan King.
Starter
Tanner Moulder (2-2) went five hitless innings, allowing one walk and three strikeouts on 42 pitches, with 34 of those pitches in the strike zone.
Belhaven will have a quick turnaround as the Green and Gold next host Illinois Wesleyan at Smith-Wills Stadium Tuesday at 3 p.m.
