GREENVILLE, S.C. – Belhaven University Softball has earned its first No. 1 ranking in program history this week, after being named to the post in the latest National Christian College Athletic Association Softball poll.
Last week, the No. 2 Blazers were 5-0 with a doubleheader victory against Centenary in non-conference action before sweeping Concordia Texas in ASC play.
With the perfect week, Belhaven moved up into a tie with Shorter University for the top spot in the NCCAA, with each school receiving 37 points in the voting.
It is the first No. 1 ranking for Belhaven University since its move to a joint affiliation with the NCCAA.
The Blazers have been ranked in the top five in the country in recent years, but have never claimed the top spot in any national poll prior to this week's announcement.
The ranking extends a monumental week for the Blazers softball program, as Belhaven's
Julienne Broussard and
Carly Yasses also swept the National Pitcher/Player of the Week honors.
Belhaven was set to return to action on the weekend with a trip to the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas for a three-game series, but that series has been postponed due to heavy rains in the region. The Blazers are now scheduled to return to action on Tuesday with a trip to Holly Springs, Mississippi to face Rust College.
