AUSTIN, Texas - After a strong third quarter to get the contest to a nine-point deficit, the Belhaven women's basketball team was only able to muster six fourth quarter points to fall to .500 on the season with a 67-46 loss to Concordia Texas Thursday night inside the Concordia Fieldhouse.
After a cold first half, the Blazers cut the Tornados lead to 10 at recess. However, the Tornados (5-0) started the third quarter with a 7-0 run to push their lead to 18, 37-19. However, the Blazers (2-2) went on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to seven at 37-30. At the end of the quarter, the Green and Gold only trailed by nine to the Tornados.
However, in the fourth quarter, after a
Tajee Harper jump shot, Concordia sprinted to an 18-4 run in the final 7:31 of the contest to seal the deal.
Ke'Asia Gray led the Blazers with 11 bench points, including a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.
Samara Dingiswayo totaled eight points and grabbed five rebounds.
Vamikka Smith was a defensive presence for the Green and Gold. To go along with three made free throws, the Mobile, Ala. native assisted on three Blazers' baskets, while stealing three as well. The senior also totaled nine rebounds in the contest.
Jaela Dejean led all scorers with 25 points for the Tornados, while Emily Cullers and Alyssa Martinez totaled 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Blazers return to the hardwood on Saturday evening for a contest with Mary Hardin-Baylor. Due to the Cru hosting a quarterfinal football game in the NCAA Division III National Championship, the contest has been pushed back from a 1 p.m. start to a 5:30 p.m. tip from Belton.
