JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven football team hosts No. 3 Mary Hardin-Baylor for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 5. Kickoff for the final game of the season inside Belhaven Bowl Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
Twenty minutes prior to kickoff, the Blazers will hold a ceremony to honor its 19 seniors - Alonso Acosta, Octavious Arrington, Jeremiah Beck, Makeba Crowley, Jaquay Daniels, Marvin Grady, David Green, Ofa Hautau, Dillon Massingill, Isaac Nelson, Derek O'Neal, LaMiquell Roberts, Kevin Shief, Darien Thomas, Marcel Thompson, Trey Tolliver, Alvin Vaughn, Nate Williams and Jordan Young.
The Blazers (1-7) are coming off of a 55-21 loss at home to No. 10 Hardin-Simmons last week. The Cowboys jumped on the Blazers early, scoring three touchdowns within the first seven minutes of the game. Belhaven came out with more intensity in the second half, and held Hardin-Simmons to just 10 points while putting two Blazers touchdowns on the board.
Saturday's game versus No. 3 Mary Hardin-Baylor will mark the Blazers second game this season against an opponent ranked in the top 5 of NCAA Division III, third against opponents ranked in the top 10 and fifth against opponents ranked in the top 20.
Mary Hardin-Baylor enters Saturday's matchup with an undefeated 8-0 season mark after topping Sul Ross State 59-10 last Saturday in Alpine, Texas. That win guaranteed UMHB at least a share of a 12th straight ASC title.
Prior to the week nine victory over Sul Ross State, the Cru picked up wins over Ohio Wesleyan University, Texas Lutheran University, Linfield College, McMurry University, Howard Payne University, East Texas Baptist, and Hardin-Simmons.
Mary Hardin-Baylor finished the 2015 season with an 11-2 overall record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
Saturday's game will mark the sixth all-time meeting between Belhaven and Mary Hardin-Baylor with the Cru holding a slight 3-2 advantage. The Blazers won the first two meetings while the Crusaders have taken the last three matchups, including a 59-13 win in Belton, Texas last season.
Saturday's game will be broadcast live on WJNT AM 1180 with Kevin Griffin and Jay Fletcher on the call. Live video, audio and stats will also be available on the Blazers Sports Network.
