Men's Basketball Set for First Away Game at Rhodes

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven men's basketball travels to Memphis, Tenn. on Wednesday, Nov. 23 for its first road contest of the 2016-17 season, taking on the Lynx of Rhodes College. First tip is set for 5:30 p.m.

Belhaven opened the season with an 85-76 victory at home over local rival Millsaps College on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Ron Davis paced the Blazers in the win, recording a 16-point, 10-assist double-double while also draining three shots from downtown. Senior forward DJ Young-Beasley added 16 points on just seven shots.

The win for the Green and Gold was the team's first season-opening victory since 2012. The Blazers made 10 three-pointers as a team and shot 50% from the floor.

Rhodes is coming off of a 119-116 overtime loss to East Texas Baptist on Sunday, Nov. 20. The Lynx scored 61 points in the second half to erase a 13-point ETBU lead and send the game to overtime, but a 9-0 Tigers run in the extra period proved to be the difference.

Prior to the defeat to ETBU, the Lynx earned a season-opening 124-113 win over Wilmington College on Nov. 19. Rhodes is averaging a whopping 120 points per game this season and have drained 31 three-pointers in just two games.

Five different Lynx players are averaging at least 12 points per contest, led by Brennan Sullivan and Tyler Gee recording 16.5 each. Rhodes head coach Mike DeGeorge will substitute early and often as 13 of his players are playing at least 11.5 minutes per game and no one player is playing more than 23.5 minutes each contest.

Rhodes finished the 2015-16 season with a 10-16 overall mark and a 4-10 record in Southern Athletic Association play. The Lynx lost 12 of their final 15 games to close out the season.

Wednesday's game at Rhodes will be the start of a three-game road swing for the Blazers and the only game of the season in the state of Tennessee for Belhaven. Seven of the Green and Gold's first 10 games are away from the friendly confines of Rugg Arena.
