Women's Basketball Conclude Homestand with Huntingdon Tuesday

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven women's basketball team gears up for its final game of the current three-game homestand Tuesday, when the Green and Gold host Huntingdon in a non-conference showdown at 5:30 p.m. inside Rugg Arena. 

Belhaven (2-0) is coming off a great first week of the 2016-17 campaign with victories over Millsaps on Wednesday and Rhodes on Saturday. 

The Green and Gold will look to continue their stroke from the field. In their first two games, Belhaven has shot 42 percent from the field, while going 35 percent from behind the arc. 

Tajee Harper completed her first week in a Blazers uniform with identical 13-point performances, both off the bench. 

Candler Gregory, through her first two games of the season, is averaging 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. The senior collected 10 rebounds in the win against the Lynx on Saturday. 

Averaging 24 minutes through her first two games at Belhaven, Samara Dingiswayo had 10 points against Rhodes, and is shooting 37.5 percent from the field. 

The Blazers defeated the Lady Hawks on Dec. 12  in last season's matchup in Montgomery, Ala., 73-64, thanks to identical 16-point performances by Sierra Pittman and Candler Gregory

Maleah Isaac added 12 points, while Vamikka Smith brought down a game-high 12 rebounds. 

Huntingdon (2-0) won the Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament, hosted by William Peace University in Raleigh, N.C. 

Jenna Dorman averaged 17 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in her first two games of her senior campaign, while shooting 56 percent from the field. 

The game-high scorer in last year's matchup was Juliette Harp. The junior is shooting 57 percent from the field, while averaging 15.5 points and 9.5 boards. The Chattanooga, Tenn. native scored 19 points in 36 minutes for the Lady Hawks against the Blazers last December. 

As a team, the Lady Hawks are shooting 38.4 percent from the field, and has totaled 21 steals in their first two games.
