Belhaven Volley Sweeps Two to Complete Regular Season

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Belhaven volleyball team wrapped up the 2016 season with back-to-back sweeps in the Centenary Halloween Tournament by taking care of Centenary and Rust in straight sets on Saturday in the Gold Dome on the campus of Centenary.

In their first match of the season against the Ladies of Centenary College, the Blazers took down the tournament hosts in straight sets, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22.

The Blazers may have out-attacked their opponent by two kills, 34-32, but the Blazers limited their mistakes by only committing 13 errors to the opponent's 24.

For the ninth time this season, the Green and Gold totaled an attack percentage of .200 or better with a percentage of .204 in Saturday's opener.

Blaykleigh Smythe led the Green and Gold on the attack with eight kills in the match, while Jackie Gunderson and Annelle Anderson each had seven.

Abbey Herman added 18 digs for the Blazers, while Kelly Aholt totaled 26 assists.

Lexi Brantley had a season-best seven service aces in the Blazers victory.

In the final match of the day against Rust, the Blazers came out strong to complete their regular season, defeating the Bearcats 25-7, 25-8, 25-9.

The Blazers defense allowed three kills in the match, while the offense killed 33 attacks on nine committed errors for a .407 attack percentage, the highest this season.

Herman led the Blazers on the attack with nine kills, while Anderson killed eight attacks.

Brantley and Meghan Luker split the duties on the assist game. With each player playing in two sets each, Luker totaled 15 assists, while Brantley added 10.

Katy Grace Abbott led the match with six service aces, and Herman added five.
