Football Preview: Game 7 at Louisiana College

JACKSON, Miss. - Week eight of Belhaven Football will kickoff Saturday, October 22 as the Blazers travel to Pineville, La. to take on ASC opponent Louisiana College. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. inside Wildcat Stadium.

The Blazers are coming off of a 56-7 home loss to McMurry last week. The seven points scored by Belhaven is a season-low. Belhaven finished the game with 19 first downs to McMurry's 15, but recorded 331 total yards of offense while allowing the War Hawks to accumulate 437 total yards.

Prior to the week seven loss versus McMurry, Belhaven (1-5) dropped games at Sul Ross State, versus No. 17 East Texas Baptist, at No. 19 Huntingdon College and at No. 2 Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The Blazers began the season by winning the seventh edition of the Riverside Rumble on Sept. 1 against rival Millsaps at Harper Davis Field, defeating the Majors 28-25.

Despite stumbling last week versus McMurry, Belhaven's Air Raid offense still sits atop all of NCAA Division III in passing yards per game, totaling 417.7 per contest.

The Blazers also still lead the American Southwest Conference in completions (208) and attempts (378), and rank second in the conference in passing touchdowns (18).

One of the positives to come out of last week's loss to McMurry was that the Blazers gained a season-high 116 rushing yards. Octavious Arrington led the way for Belhaven with 33 yards on nine carries. The senior running back also scored his first rushing touchdown of the season.

Louisiana College enters Saturday's matchup with a 3-3 season mark. The Wildcats are looking to put an end to a two-game losing streak after falling 21-14 at Sul Ross State last week and dropping a 42-21 decision to No. 12 Hardin-Simmons in week six. The Wildcats have picked up wins over Texas College, Texas Lutheran University and Howard Payne University.

Louisiana College is Belhaven's most familiar ASC opponent, having played the Wildcats seven time previous. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 5-2 and have won the last four matchups.

In the 38-28 loss to Louisiana last season, the Blazers fell behind 17-0 in the second quarter before outscoring the Wildcats 28-21 over the final 40 minutes of play. Belhaven recorded more total yards of offense and first downs than the Wildcats.
