CLINTON, Miss. – The Belhaven Blazers Football team fell to Mississippi College Saturday night 42-21.
Belhaven (0-3) held a 21-14 lead going into the halftime break, however, the Choctaws (2-1) held the Blazers scoreless in the second half and stormed back with 28 unanswered points.
The Blazers took an early lead when
Clayton Webb connected with
Darien Thomas on a 37-yard touchdown pass.
After the Choctaws scored to cut it to 7-6,
Deon Richardson caught a 14-yard pass from Webb to extend the lead to 14-6.
Late in the first half, the Blazers took the lead with a 25-yard touchdown connection between
Kevin Shief and Webb.
However, after 302 yards of offense in the first half, Belhaven was only able to generate 119 total yards in the second half.
On the other side of the ball, Mississippi College totaled 534 yards of offense, including 500 yards rushing.
The Choctaws converted several key third downs in the second half and helped turn them into four touchdown drives to pull away from Belhaven.
Webb finished 33-for-57 with 313 yards passing. He had three touchdowns and one interception.
Thomas finished with seven receptions in the game to lead the Blazers. He had 88 yards and the one score.
Nate Williams and Richardson each had six receptions with 75 and 46 yards receiving.
Devin Odom had 14 carries for 56 yards in the game, while
Marquis Hedge had 42 yards on nine rushes.
Alvin Vaughn led the Blazers in tackles with 12 total.
Xavier Brooks and
Alonzo Peavy each had seven tackles.
