ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Belhaven Blazers fell to Biola University 2-0 in the Opening Round of the NAIA National Tournament on Monday.
The game took over 6:30 hours after a nearly five-hour weather delay that stopped play in the fourth inning.
Belhaven fell behind early, giving up an unearned run in the bottom of the first to go down 1-0.
Biola would add an insurance run in the sixth inning to go up 2-0.
The Blazers had their chances to get on the scoreboard but were unable to get the timely hit.
Tori Sorrell was the closest to putting the Blazers in the run column with a fly ball that hit off of the top of the wall in left field, missing homerun distance by a few inches. She reached on a double, but would end up being stranded there.
Ashlee Hitt and
Dani Craft put runners on first and second in the sixth inning, but the Blazers again failed to find the necessary hit to score either base runner.
The Blazers would strand five base runners in the game.
Jordan Herring pitched all six innings for Belhaven, giving up just six hits. Only one of the two runs against her was earned and the freshman had four strikeouts with no walks.
The Blazers await the decision of the LSU Alexandria and Kansas Wesleyan game and will play the loser tomorrow in the first elimination game of the regional. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
