MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Belhaven Men's Basketball team's season came to an end Thursday afternoon as the Blazers fell to No. 2 seed Martin Methodist 77-69 in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.
The Blazers overcame an early 11-point deficit to Martin Methodist to give the Redhawks an upset bid.
Jordan Bedford gave the Blazers a two-point lead at the 12:26 mark of the second half with a three pointer, one of four for the senior in his final game for the Green-and-Gold. Bedford would go on to finish with 16 points, four rebounds and three steals.
However, Martin Methodist would answer back with a 10-0 run and then continue to expand the lead to as much as 11 on a couple of occasions in the final five minutes.
Senior
Dycus Juste cut the deficit to four points with a free throw with 28 seconds remaining. Then
De'la Mayers got it back to four again with 11 seconds left but Belhaven could not cut the deficit again.
Datodrick Pinkston wrapped up his Belhaven career with 14 points and eight rebounds. He also had three steals and an assist in the game.
Jerrial Dawson added three points and four assists in the game. He also had two steals to hang up his sneakers for the Blazers.
The Blazers wrap their first season under
Jonathan Vines with a 12-20 mark and a 7-11 mark in SSAC play. The Blazers finish the season 1-1 in postseason play as Belhaven knocked off AUM in the opening round.
