TYLER, Texas – The Belhaven baseball team suffered a walk off loss on Wednesday afternoon, falling 9-8 to Texas College in ten innings. The Blazers have lost three of their last four, while the Steers picked up their second home win.
Texas College answered the two-run Belhaven first with a three-run home run to right field in the bottom half before tacking on two more runs in the next inning. The Blazers scored three in the fifth to pull even, but the Steers responded well consistently.
Belhaven scored twice in the eighth inning, but Texas College came back to tie the game in their half. After a scoreless ninth, Belhaven squeezed home a run and looked poised to win their 17th game of the season.
The Steers were able to plate two runs and hand
Zach Osha the loss, while Gene Swartzenberg collected his second win of the season. With the loss, Belhaven drops to 16-11 on the season, while Texas College picked up their fifth victory.
Third baseman
Gabe Wilson highlighted the effort for the Belhaven offense, contributing three singles and a triple at the plate. Centerfielder
Reagan Rutledge added two triples of his own, while
Emilio DeSilva drove in two runs from the leadoff spot.
Rutledge also swiped home in the eighth inning to give him his 24th successful steal of the season, while
Paul Pickerrell gave the Blazers their only other safe attempt of the day. The Blazers now stand five shy of triple digits as a team.
As of now, the Blazers are scheduled to return to action on Friday, when they take on the Bethel Wildcats in Southern States Athletic Conference play. First pitch from West Tennessee is slated for 1:00 pm.
