NEW ORLEANS, LA. – After opening the season without dropping a set, No. 3 Xavier swept the women's tennis team 5-0 this afternoon. The Blazers fall to 1-1 on the young season. The Gold Nuggets (1-2) pick up their first victory of the season.
 
Abbes and Vernet, teamed up to best Belhaven's A. Kimball and Smith 8-3 in doubles court No. 1. The duo of Flowers and Bruins knocked off Blazers Lichlyter and Jefcoat 8-5 in the No.2. The final doubles court saw van der Walt and Nelson defeat Belhaven's McLendon and S. Kimball 8-1.
 
After AnneMarie Kimball, Stephanie Smith, and Mary Lichlyter did not play, action picked up in the No. 4 court. Defending NAIA Singles Champion Nour Abbes did not have the opportnity to face off with Belhaven's AnneMarie Kimball in the No. 1 court. 

Gold Nugget Sha'nel Bruins bested Brittany Keeling 6-0, 6-2; Jana van der Walt defeated Belhaven's SaraCaroline Kimball 6-1, 6-0; and Dasia Harris and Ashley McLendon's match did not finish.
 
The Blazers will be back in action next Friday as they take on crosstown rival, Tougaloo at 3:00 PM.
