NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Belhaven baseball team suffered their fourth straight Southern States Athletic Conference action Friday evening, falling 5-3 to Loyola University. The Blazers drop to 11-8 overall with the loss, including a 2-5 mark in SSAC play.
Rightfielder Alexander Lorenzo paced the Wolfpack lineup, contributing three hits and driving in two runs. Loyola totaled nine hits on the evening, outhitting the guests by Blazers by three.
Left hander Joel Buhler picked up the win for Loyola, lasting into the seventh inning and fanning eight. Nick Moore finished the game on the hill, allowing just one run en route to his first save of the season.
For Belhaven, shortstop
Will Mullen was the only player to collect two base hits on the night. The Blazers successfully stole nine bases as team, highlighted by
Reagan Rutledge's five.
Ben Allison took the loss, striking out seven and allowing five runs through 5.2 innings.
David Hill tossed the game's final 2.1 frames in relief without giving up a hit.
The Blazers are set to return to action on Saturday, when they will finish the series with the Wolfpack. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 pm.
