MOBILE, Ala. – The Belhaven tennis teams picked up sweeps of former Southern States Athletic Conference foe Spring Hill College on Thursday in Mobile. The men finished 8-1, while the Belhaven women claimed a 9-0 victory to give Head Coach
Levi Patton his 150th career victory.
Senior
Jefferson Nino defeated Badger junior Alejandro Hastings 6-0 twice, while
Daniel Duarte knocked off Lars Bajohr in a sudden death tiebreaker.
Daniel Prado surrendered just one point in his match, beating Sebastian Arias 6-0 and 6-1.
Omar Lopez defeated Nick Cruz by scores of 6-1 and 6-1, while
Lachlan Puyol gave the Blazers a victory over Andrew Risley with 6-0 and 6-2 wins. The only loss against the Belhaven men on the day came when Daniel Piper defeated
Rene Ramos in a tiebreaker.
In doubles action, Duarte and Puyol team up to defeat Risley and Hastings 8-5, while Nino and Prado beat Bajohr and Cruz by a final of 8-1. Lopez and Ramos were able to beat Spring Hill's Airas and Piper 8-2.
The Belhaven men improved to 5-1 on the year, including a five-match win streak.
On the women's side,
AnneMarie Kimball and
Stephanie Smith defeated Maria Hastings and Elizabeth Peters 8-2, while
Rachel Jefcoat and
Mary Lichlyter won their match 8-3.
Ashley McLendon and
SaraCaroline Kimball swept Allison Gmelich and Kate Sotolongo 8-0 to leave the Blazers unblemished in doubles play.
Individually,
AnneMarie Kimball defeated Hastings 6-0 twice, highlighting the 6-0 sweep for the Blazers.
Stephanie Smith beat Peters 6-3 and 6-1, while Lichlyter bested Sotolongo 6-1 and 6-0. Jefcoat defeated Chandler Burkenstock 6-0 and 6-2, and McLendon knocked off Megan Gietl with scores of 6-2 and 6-2. Brittany keeling defeated Gmelich 6-2 and 6-1 to give the Blazers their fifth win in their last six matches.
The Blazers return to action in the SSAC Roundup in Mobile on Friday, where they will play four conference opponents.
