Baseball stumbles against LSU-Alexandria, falls 8-4

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Belhaven baseball team suffered their fourth loss of the season on Tuesday, falling 8-4 at the hands of LSU-Alexandria. The setback dropped the Blazers to 2-2 on the road and 9-4 overall.

"Every loss is frustrating, but nothing seemed to go our way tonight," Head Coach Hill Denson said. "It's a humbling game sometimes. We have to shake it off and get ready for tomorrow."

Belhaven took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but the Generals scored in each of the next five frames. LSUA complimented the offense with a bevy of impressive defensive plays, with the highlight coming in the top of the sixth.

With runners on second and third with just one out and the Blazers trailing 4-3, centerfielder Adam Michel caught a line drive and threw a Belhaven runner out the plate for the final out. The Generals' offense made sure that was as close as their guests would get to pulling even.

Daniel Ammirati was the only Blazer hitter with a multi-hit game, while Adam Kowalczyk extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Belhaven sent nine different arms to the mound, but Tanner Moulder was hit with the loss after the Generals took the lead for good in the fourth inning.

LSUA saw eight players contribute a base hit, while shortstop Matt Telesco drove in a pair of runs to help the club improve to 7-6. Austin Wilson picked up the victory in relief, allowing just one run and striking out three over five innings of work.

Belhaven returns to action on Wednesday, when they will take on nationally ranked LSU-Shreveport in the finale of the two-day road trip. First pitch is slated for 2:00 pm.
