ATLANTA, Ga. - The Belhaven Blazers wrapped up 2015 with a win in thrilling overtime fashion, 71-70, over Manchester University on Saturday.
The Blazers had a six-point advantage at the break, but Manchester was able to cut back the deficit in the third and fourth quarters and had a two-point advantage late in the contest. With eight seconds left,
Sierra Pittman made a layup to force the extra period.
Belhaven capitalized on 50 percent shooting in the extra session to outscore the Spartans by one and pick up its third win of the season.
Candler Gregory's three pointer with 53 seconds left sealed the victory for Belhaven, giving them a four-point advantage, as the Spartans were only able to answer back with three more points in the remainder of the game.
Jasmine Brown led the way for the Blazers, collecting a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the game.
Pittman and
Ieshia Dixon joined Brown in double figures with 17 and 10 points, respectively. Both players had four assists and Dixon collected seven rebounds.
Maleah Isaac and
Tamora Shelton also joined Brown in double figures on the boards. The transfer duo collected 11 points each in the game. Isaac finished with eight points and Shelton had seven. Shelton also had all three blocks in the game for Belhaven.
Gregory extended her three-point streak with two from behind the arc tonight. Gregory has made at least one three in every game this season, a streak of nine games.
The Blazers will return to action in the new year with a pair of ASC conference games. Belhaven will welcome in Hardin-Simmons to start the 2016 schedule with a 1 p.m. tip off at Rugg Arena.
