JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven will make the trip across Jackson on Tuesday night to take on cross-town rival Mississippi College at Wood Coliseum.
Tuesday's game is the first between the two schools since January 28, 2002. The Blazers are 4-14 all-time against Mississippi College, including a 66-67 loss for the Blazers in the last meeting.
The Blazers have lost four straight against the Choctaws in Clinton, with Belhaven's last win coming in a 52-42 victory in December of 1992.
Belhaven is coming off of a season opening loss on Friday at Rhodes College, falling 53-58 to the Lynx.
Candler Gregory led the way for the Blazers on Friday, with a 16-point, 4-rebound performance. Gregory tied a career high for points (16) and free throws made (6).
Sierra Pittman also had a strong night in the opener, scoring 10 points while also recording five rebounds.
Five Blazers made their debuts for the Green-and-Gold last week, with
Vamikka Smith and
Ieshia Dixon, each statistically having big nights.
Smith scored seven points with five rebounds in the game, while Dixon finished with eight points and a block.
Mississippi College has played three games this year, all exhibition losses against NCAA Division I opponents. The Choctaws were 8-18 last season, but 7-8 at home.
Belhaven was 6-10 away from home last season.
Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Blazers Sports Network.
