TYLER, Texas – The Belhaven Blazers picked up a split on Saturday in day two of the ASC Crossover Challenge this weekend held at the University of Texas at Tyler.
Belhaven opened the day with a win over Hardin-Simmons 3-2, but fell to McMurry in the second match 1-3.
Lauren Whiting led the way in the Blazers win over Hardin-Simmons with 14 kills. Belhaven defeated HSU in come-from-behind fashion; 23-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-22, 15-9.
Chae Levy and
Jackie Gunderson also had nine and six kills in the match.
Kelly Aholt had 41 assists in the match.
Defensively,
Abbey Herman had 18 digs to lead the Blazers, while
Jackie Gunderson and
Cassidy Fitzpatrick had 16 and 14 digs in the match, respectively.
Up front defensively,
Annelle Anderson and Whiting had six blocks to lead the way.
Molly Boyer also had five blocks.
In match two, Belhaven took the first set 25-21, but dropped the next three 11-25, 12-25, and 19-25.
Gunderson led the Blazers with eight kills in the match. Whiting had seven kills and Anderson had six in the match.
Gunderson also led the team in blocks with Boyer and finished with 13 digs. Both Gunderson and Boyer finished with four blocks.
Herman led the Blazers again with 16 digs. Fitzpatrick had 15 digs in the match.
Belhaven will be back on the road next week, with matches at UT-Dallas and UT-Tyler.
