MARSHALL, Texas - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team prevails with a 1-0 victory over East Texas Baptist on Friday afternoon at Cornish Field.
After a scoreless first half, the Blazers (7-3-1) came out shooting in the second half, taking two shots before the Blazers were able to get on the board. After a yellow card was issued by the Tigers in the 48th minute,
Andrew West's free kick was saved by the Tigers goalie. A few seconds later (48:07),
John Ledbetter took the corner kick for the Blazers, and West was there to score his third goal of the season from
Nicolas Cornejo.
The Blazers finished the match outshooting the Tigers (1-9) 16 to 11, while only holding ETBU to five shots in the second half.
"It is important that we continue our winning form as we move forward in conference play," explained head coach
Carl Griffiths. "Today's win was hard fought as we did not finish opportunities and put the game away early. We need to improve on our final third play, but our performance was worthy of the win."
Belhaven continues to win away from the Belhaven Bowl, improving to 36-11-2 since the start of the 2012 season. In the
Carl Griffiths era, the Blazers are 15-4 away from Jackson.
The Blazers will finish this weekend's road trip on Saturday against LeTourneau. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Longview, Texas.
