Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven softball team (26-7, 8-4 SSAC) split a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Spring Hill College  (21-6, 6-2 SSAC) before taking the second game by a final of 5-3. With the loss in the opener, Belhaven's four game winning streak came to a close, while the Blazers handed the Badgers their fourth road loss of the year.

"If we had gotten a big hit here or there, we could have come away with a sweep today," Head Coach Kevin Griffin said. "We played our game today, and it worked out for us."

The Blazer offense scattered just four hits in the first game but proved unable to scratch across a run against riseball pitcher Caroline Sagrera. The right-hander went the distance, striking out 11 and walking seven along the way.

Katy Adair was hit with the loss for the home team after allowing a run on a hit, two walks and a Blazer error through two innings. Jessica Paris came on in relief, hurling the final five frames and allowing just one run to cross the plate.

Jenna Charnock sparked the Badger offense with a pair of base hits, Sam Leach added the team's only hit for extra bases, and Taylor Webre was credited with Spring Hill's lone RBI.

Belhaven turned the tables in the second game, as senior Ginger Lonergan went 5.2 innings before allowing her first hit of the day. Lonergan pitched the entire game, allowing two earned runs while walking two and fanning two more en route to her team best tenth victory of the year.

Shea Blanchard and Elise Debruler combined for two hits and all three runs driven in against Lonergan. The only other player on the team to record a hit was Lena Land in the sixth inning.

"Ginger was a rock for us in the circle today," Griffin said. "If it hadn't been for a couple of dropped balls in the sixth inning, I have no doubt that she would have thrown the no-hitter."

Sagrera received the starting nod in game two, but after throwing more than 200 pitches, the Blazer offense faired much better. Emily Todd highlighted the effort with three RBI on two base hits that included the game's lone extra base hit.

Victoria Sorrell hit her first home run of the year before later adding a single, while Dominique Corona also had a multi-hit afternoon. Katy Adair's sixth-inning single gave the Blazers seven for the contest, helping the team overcome three errors in the field.

Belhaven returns to SSAC action on Friday, when they will head to McKenzie, Tennessee to take on Bethel University. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2:00 pm.
