MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Belhaven volleyball team fell 3-1 to Faulkner on Saturday in the final match of the 2014 season. The Blazers took the first set 25-19 but dropped the next three by set scores of 11-25, 19-25, and 7-25 and finish the year at 12-20 overall and 2-16 in the Southern States Athletic Conference.
"Our girls came out strong and we had one of our best sets of the year in the first set," Head Coach
Justin Dee said. "It was truly a team effort as we spread the ball around to all of our hitters."
In the final match of her collegiate career, senior setter Aly Plyer picked up 13 assists and served as a key offensive leader on the floor. Freshman
Kelly Aholt led all Blazers with 16 assists on the afternoon.
Taylor Hall finished the night with a team high nine kills on 25 total attacks, while
Chae Levy and
Blaykleigh Smythe added seven and six kills respectively. The Eagles' Lindsey Ortner finished tops in the digs category with 20 on the afternoon.
On the defensive end,
Jackie Rhyne and
Jackie Gunderson paced Belhaven with a combined 27 digs. Lindsey Ortner led the Lady Eagle defensive, recording 20 digs to lead all players.
