JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven women's basketball team picked up a weekend sweep, as
Ariel Wilson's 22 points led the Blazers to a 76-55 victory on Saturday over Middle Georgia State College in Southern States Athletic Conference play.
The Blazers (7-2, 2-1 SSAC) swept the weekend's games by an average 24 points per game.
"We played one of the best games of the season," said head coach
Steve Calder. We mixed up our defense and played very fundamentally on the offensive end."
The Blazers started the contest on fire with back-to-back three point buckets by Wilson. Wilson would also lead all players in rebounds, finishing with nine in 35 minutes of action.
She also led all players with five assists. The floor leader did not have a single turnover in the contest.
From that point in the contest, the Blazers would not relinquish the lead. Belhaven ended the first half with a six-point edge before pulling away from the Lady Knights (4-3, 0-3 SSAC) with a 42-27 second half.
Kenya Wright added 12 points and four assists, while
TaShayla Steede poured in 11 points of her own.
Sierra Pittman also was in double figures with her 10 points on the evening.
The Blazers shot 44 percent (22-50), while holding the Knights to 27 percent (18-66) shooting from the field.
Belhaven had a plus-4 margin in assists, and a plus-2 margin over the Knights on the boards.
The Blazers will travel to Holly Spring, Mississippi to take on Rust College on Monday. Tip off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
