JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven volleyball team defeated crosstown foe, Tougaloo College tonight in straight sets by scores 25-21, 25-15, 25-23. The Blazers have defeated the Bulldogs in nine consecutive matches, and are now 27-0 all-time in sets versus Tougaloo. The Bulldogs fall to 4-9 on the season.
"We attacked the ball and served very well tonight," said head coach
Justin Dee. "Our passing allowed us to hit the ball better than we have all season, and I really liked our effort tonight."
The Blazers (9-9, 1-6 SSAC) won the first and last sets by a narrow margin, but set two was won decisively.
Belhaven's season kills leader,
Taylor Hall lead all players on the court with eight kills on 20 total attacks, and
Blaykleigh Smythe added six kills.
Kelly Aholt led all players with 16 assists on the night, while the season leader in digs;
Jackie Rhyne added 15 to her total.
The Blazers will host Loyola University in a crucial conference matchup on Friday night. The first serve is set for 7:00 pm.
"In order for us to accomplish our goals, we need to get to the conference tournament, and that begins by getting a win Friday night," said Dee.
