Box Score JACKSON, Miss – The Belhaven women's basketball team dropped to 8-9 overall and 2-5 in Southern States Athletic play with a 70-64 loss at the hands of Martin Methodist College on Thursday night. With the victory, the Lady Redhawks improved to 13-3 overall, including a 6-1 SSAC mark.

"This was the third game this year we've lost in the last couple minutes because we made crucial mistakes," Head Coach Rusty Cram said. "This was a great game, and our girls played their hearts out tonight."

Ariel Wilson paced the Blazer offense with 16 points, while Erika LeFlore followed with 15 of her own. LeFlore added a game-best 12 rebounds to complete her double-double.

Martin Methodist's Tyfanni Fenwick led all scorers with 21 points while two other Lady Redhawks went for double-doubles, as well. Janasia Williams finished her night with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Rachel Brown scored 11 and pulled down 11.

Belhaven forced 14 MMC turnovers while only committing six, a new season low. However, The Blazers were out-rebounded 61-35, an issue Cram feared prior to tipoff.

"That's been our Achilles' heal all year long," Cram said. "This team is known for winning on the glass, and they showed why they're ranked 24th in the nation."

The Lady Redhawks shot 38% from the field, besting Belhaven's 34% from the same region. Additionally, the visitors shot 13-17 from the free throw line, while their hosts countered with an 11-16 effort.

The Blazers will return to SSAC action on Saturday, when they will travel to Mobile, Alabama to take on Spring Hill College. Tipoff is slated for a 2:00 PM start.

"Spring Hill is a solid team and we'll have to play well," Cram said. "It's always tough to play on the road, but if we play well we'll have a chance to compete and get a conference win that we desperately need."
