MOBILE, Ala.- The Belhaven softball team took both games of a key Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader at the University Mobile Tuesday night. The Blazers, ranked 17
th in the latest NAIA Top 15 Coaches' Poll, held on for a 6-4 win in game one followed by a 7-1 victory in the second game.
Game 1
Belhaven (17-3, 5-1 SSAC) set the tone for night early on, scoring three times in the top of the second of game one. First baseman

The Blazers continued to build their lead in the fourth with two more runs off Mobile pitcher Alli Hall. Left fielder
Dominique Corona started the inning with a single up the middle and shortstop
Courtney Fairley reached on an error putting runners at first and second. Hitt doubled them both in with a line shot down the left field line to make it a 5-0 game.
Mobile (17-11) refused to give in without a fight, countering with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to get back in the game. Right fielder Morgan Pence produced an RBI double to left followed by an RBI single off the bat of center fielder Brittany Dunson for the second run. Left fielder Korie Fontenot and DP Ashley Middleton plated the other two Ram runs with singles. With two outs and two runners on,
Katy Adair came in from the bullpen to get the final out and preserve the lead and eventual win for starter
Jessica Paris.
Belhaven tacked on an insurance run in the sixth when Fairley led off the inning with a double and scored on a Hess single to extend the advantage to 6-4. Adair closed the door on the Mobile bats in the seventh to earn the save.
Paris pitched her way to win number six of the season in the circle, logging 4.2 innings. Paris (6-0) allowed four runs on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Adair fired the final 2.1 innings and prevented the Rams from crossing the plate for her first save of 2013.
Fairley had two hits and three runs scored followed by Hitt with two hits and two runs batted in to guide the Belhaven bats. Yasses and Hess each tabulated one hit and two runs batted in.
Hall (2-4) pitched a complete game for Mobile and took the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits in seven innings. Dunson paced the Rams with two hits and one run batted in.
Game 2
Belhaven struck first in game two with three runs in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by Adair and two run double by Fairley. Although the Rams countered with one run in the bottom of the first, the Blazers would dominate the rest of the way. Mobile's one run came in on a single by first baseman Jessica Palmer.
From that point on, Adair settled down in the circle and the offensive continued to provide run support. Belhaven extended the lead to 4-1 in the third on an RBI triple by Fairley that chased home catcher
Denee' Crawford who had reached on an error to begin the frame.
The Blazers picked up another run in the fourth and followed that up with two more in the sixth. Crawford plated Paris on an RBI single in the fourth and Adair helped herself with a two run base hit up the middle in the sixth to make the score 7-1.
Ginger Lonergan took over for Adair in the circle in the bottom of the sixth and didn't miss a beat, shutting down Mobile in the final two innings to close the night.
Adair improved her record to 8-3 with the win as she covered five innings in game two of the doubleheader. Adair gave up one run on four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five. She also had two hits and three runs batted in at the plate. Fairley contributed three hits and three runs batted in followed by Crawford with two hits, two runs scored, and one RBI.
Kamaron Strickland took the loss for Mobile and falls to 9-5 on the season. Strickland pitched all seven innings and gave up seven runs on 10 hits. The Mobile defense committed three errors behind her resulting in only three of the runs being earned. Palmer had two of Mobile's four hits in the contest while picking up the only RBI.
The Blazers will be back in action on Wednesday when they return home to host Judson College in a non-conference doubleheader at 2:00 PM at McLeod Field.
