Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Belhaven women's basketball team (4-1, 1-0 SSAC) picked up a 62-42 victory in their Southern States Athletic Conference opener against Brewton-Parker College (0-6, 0-1 SSAC) Friday night. The Blazers have now won four in a row and have started the SSAC schedule on a high note.

"Any win on the road is tough, especially when it's the first conference game," Head Coach Rusty Cram said. "Our team got better tonight, and we have the chance to be very good."
Freshman guard
Ariel Wilson led all scorers for the fourth time in as many games, finishing her night with 15 points. Junior forward
TaShayla Steede added 11 points of her own, while pulling down a game-high eight rebounds.
Kenya Wright chimed in eight more as the starting point guard, while
Candler Gregory went for seven points and six rebounds.
Brewton-Parker shot 26 percent from the field, including a 2-9 effort from three-point range. Briana McClain was the bright spot for the winless Barons, tallying nine points and six rebounds.
Belhaven countered by shooting at a 47 percent clip from the field, while making four of five from beyond the arc. The visiting Blazers also won the battle on the boards by a total of 45-37.
The Blazers will look to extend their winning streak when they wrap up their road trip on Saturday. The SSAC matchup with the College of Coastal Georgia is slated for a 2:00 pm tipoff.
"We will have to play exceptionally well against them to come away with a victory," Cram said. "A win tomorrow could really propel this team."
