Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ga.- The Belhaven men's basketball team fell on the road to Brewton-Parker College Friday night 78-69 in the Southern States Athletic Conference opener for both teams. The Blazers got off to a slow start and couldn't catch up in the second half.

Belhaven (1-3, 0-1 SSAC) trailed 38-32 at the break and kept the game close in the second half. Unfortunately, the Blazers couldn't put a strong enough run together to close the gap.
Belhaven was led by
Chris Cofield with 13 points followed by
Jonathan Ratliff and
Jordan Bedford who each had nine points apiece.
Deon Bedford paced the team in rebounds and contributed eight points on the offensive end of the floor.
Jordan Bedford grabbed six rebounds, including five on offense.
"We struggled to find a rhythm against their zone tonight," said Belhaven Head Coach John Aiken. "I was happy with the effort of
Jordan Bedford and his aggressiveness on the boards. We have to put this one behind us and get ready for Coastal Georgia. I'm looking forward to a quick bounce back tomorrow."
Brewton-Parker (3-3, 1-0 SSAC) had two players with 20 plus points on the night. Kenny Cunningham led all players with 25 points followed by Darrie Stephens with 21 points and a game high nine rebounds. Justin Quarterman rounded out the double digit scorers with 12 points and six rebounds.
Belhaven will look to rebound on Saturday in another SSAC contest at the College of Coastal Georgia. The tip-off is slated for 4:00 PM.
