HATTIESBURG, Miss.- The Belhaven men's and women's cross country teams were back on the course Saturday at the Screamin Eagle 5k Festival hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi. The Blazer men finished third out of three teams while the women ended the race in fourth place out of five teams.
Sophomore
Chloe Brown was the top Belhaven finisher on the women's side, crossing the line in 18th place with a time of 23:00. Senior
Sarah McCallister finished 19th behind Brown with a time of 23:41. Senior Sarah River (24:50), Senior
Seraphine Lin (27:25), and
Chellese Hall (30:40) crossed the line in 21st, 26th, and 29th place respectively.
Stephanie Ledgerwood of Southern Mississippi took home the individual title with a time of 18:17. The Eagles also claimed the team championship with a total time of 1:37:09.
On the men's side, sophomore
Thorburn McGee turned in a solid race finishing ninth with a time of 19:08. Freshman
Ben Storment clocked a time of 19:18 leading to an 11th place finish. Fellow freshman teammate
Matt Fox finished 12th about second behind Storment. Senior
Andrew Sinclair (19:52) and
John Lane (19:55) completed the course in 14th and 15th place respectively.
Mark Manion of Tulane University won the event with a time of 17:39 and led his team to the overall victory. The Green Wave posted a final time of 1:31:55.
Belhaven will be back on the course Friday October 5th in the MC/Watson Ford Invitational at Choctaws Trails in Clinton, Mississippi. The women's race gets underway at 4:30 PM followed by the men at 5:15 PM.
