MONTGOMERY, Ala.-The Belhaven women's basketball team won for the seventh consecutive time, and now has won 12 of its last 13 games, thanks to a 78-52 Southern States Athletic Conference victory at Auburn University-Montgomery Saturday afternoon. The Blazers, ranked 16th in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, controlled the game from start to finish.
Belhaven (19-5, SSAC 12-1) started the contest off on the fast track seeing an eight point lead at the 10:00 mark. The Blazers continued to build on their lead when junior
Sarah Carr drained a three pointer with 3:26 left to play in the half extending their advantage to 17 points, 29-12. The Blazers closed the half on an 8-2 run maintaining a 20 point lead at the break.
The Blazers outscored AUM (10-13, SSAC 4-9) in the first half by a margin of 20 points 34-14. Belhaven only shot 36.4% from the floor in the half, but was perfect from the free throw line at 7-7 while forcing 15 Warhawk turnovers. AUM went 6-30 from the floor while only posting 14 points in the half.
The Blazers continued to own the momentum going into the second half. They extended their lead to twenty eight points on a
Jessica Barlow lay-up, less than two minutes into the final period. With 8:06 left to play, AUM's Courtney Thacker trimmed the Blazer lead to 22 after knocking down a triple making it 65-43 game. However, the Warhawks would get no closer the rest of the afternoon as Belhaven eventually elevated the lead to 31 points before finishing the contest off with the 26 point win, 78-52.
Belhaven was led by senior guard
Regena Jackson who sent in a game high 20 points while picking up four rebounds and three assists. The Blazers ended up having five total players with double figures in points. Junior guard

Jessica Barlow notched 12 points, and junior forward
Ashley Wakefield along with senior guard
Kiara Johnson picked up 10 points each. Sophomore forward Ericka Leflore had a team high seven rebounds and Barlow recorded a pair of blocked shots. Belhaven ended the afternoon hitting 27 of 61 shots from the field (44.3%)
Auburn-Montgomery was paced by LaKenya Drayton who had 13 points, a game high eight rebounds, and four assists. Courtney Thacker was the only other Warhawk to score in double figures, notching 10 points. Overall, AUM struggled on the offensive end of the floor shooting 42.9% from the field while committing 20 turnovers. Belhaven capitalized on the mistakes and turned them into 27 points.
Belhaven will be back in action on Thursday night hosting the University of Mobile in an SSAC West Division contest starting at 5:30 PM in Rugg Arena. The Blazers still hold a one game lead in the SSAC West Division over Loyola University who won at Spring Hill College today 70-59.
