Box Score vs. Blue Mountain Box Score vs. William Penn
JACKSON, Miss.- The Belhaven softball team added two more games to the win column on Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Belhaven Bash Invitational. The Blazers defeated Blue Mountain College in game one 4-0 and turned right around to capture a win over William Penn University 7-5 in game two. Belhaven has now won four straight games thanks to two wins on Friday in the Invitational over Blue Mountain College and Benedictine University.
Game One
Belhaven (6-3) didn't get their first run until the bottom of the third inning when
Lizzy Hess wrapped a single to center bringing in
Katie Sanders for the run.
Annalee Carr then tallied two RBIs a single past third base rounding in
Lizzy Hess and
Jessica Paris for two more Blazers runs giving Belhaven a 3-0 advantage.
In the bottom fifth, the Blazers posted their fourth run when
Lizzy Hess earned her second hit of the game slamming a double to left field allowing
Emily Tucker to score, giving the Blazers a 4-0 edge. The run would be the last of the contest as the Blazers claimed the win 4-0.
Belhaven pounded out seven hits while managing four runs with four RBIs.
Lizzy Hess and
Katie Sanders led the Blazers in hits with two apiece while Hess chimed in two RBIs as well.
Annalee Carr had two RBIs while three other Blazer players got a hit apiece Carr, Austin and Paris.
Jessica Paris pitched all seven innings pitching the Blazers first shutout of the season only allowing two hits in the contest. Paris received the win bringing her win-loss record up to 1-1.
Blue Mountain College (2-6) managed two hits in the contest off the bat of Whitney Hardwick and Hilary Parrish with one apiece. Taking the loss for the Toppers was Brooke Denton pitching six innings allowing seven hits with four runs.
Game Two
The Blazers remained hot at the beginning of the second game against William Penn University scoring five runs in the bottom of the first to go up 5-0 at the end of the first inning. The runs were produced in part by
Courtney Fairley who hit a double, allowing
Annalee Carr and
CeCee Austin to score. Fairley then added one more run by crossing the plate on a wild pitch made by Amber Daly, the starting pitcher for the Statesmen. Catcher
Chelsea Randle generated another run for Belhaven allowing
Shelby Watson to cross the plate on a single up to the middle. On the last at bat of the inning,
Emily Tucker hit the ball to the left giving enough time for
Jordan Adams to score the last run of the inning, bringing the score at 5-0 in favor of the Blazers. Randle was thrown out at third trying to advance on the throw home.
William Penn answered in the top of the third with a run by Brittni Reyes that was recorded on an Ashley Stream double. The Blazers responded in the bottom of the third scoring two more runs bringing the score to 7-1. In fact,
Courtney Fairley started with a double and took advantage of an error by Statesmen's left fielder Rikki Picariello to score the sixth run of the game.
Chelsea Randle kept the offense going chasing home
Shelby Watson on a single up the middle. The Blazers ended the third inning leading the contest 7-1.
Athena Rosario got William Penn back on track in the top of the seventh inning, scoring a run on Brittni Reyes sacrifice fly. Brailey Freed and Rikki Picariello gave two more run to the Statesmen on Ashley Stream singled to left field. Stream took advantage of a throwing error by Belhaven's short stop to score the last run of the game, make the final score to 7-5 in favor of the Blazers. All four runs in the inning were unearned due to three Blazer errors.
Belhaven was led by
Courtney Fairley who had a two runs, two hits and two RBIs.
Chelsea Randle went 2 to 3 at the plate with a pair of RBI's and
Shelby Watson and
Emily Tucker also had one RBI each.
Bayleigh Babin started in the circle for the Blazers and pitched five innings, allowing only one run and four hits. She did not walk a batter struck out en route to the win that improved her record to 3-1 this season.
Megan Timbs fired the last two innings allowing four unearned runs on three hits.
Ashley Stream was 2 for 4 with two RBI's to lead William Penn at the plate. Athena Rosario also notched two hits in the contest. Amber Daly received the loss, pitching the entire game allowing seven runs off of 10 hits.
Belhaven will be back in action on Wednesday, traveling to NCAA Division II Delta State University for a doubleheader beginning at 5:00 PM.
