Blazers Record Two Wins against LSUA

Ridgeland, MS- The Belhaven softball team picked up two wins Tuesday evening against Louisiana State University at Alexandria. The Blazers defeated LSUA in the first game 4-2 and in the second contest 7-5. The Blazers combined for a total of 20 hits and 11 runs.

Game One
The Blazers got things going in the bottom of the fourth gaining three hits and two runs in the inning. Rachael Wright singled up the middle allowing CeCee Austin to score. Kayla Maldonado singled through the right side rounding in Wright for another run giving the Blazers a 2-0 advantage. LSU-A then rallied in the top of the 5th to tie the score at two apiece. Calla Willoughby hit a double up the middle bringing in Erin Brossett and Joey Dixon.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, CeCee Austin hit a homerun bringing in Annalee Carr to send Belhaven back in front. The Generals weren't able to put up anymore runs in the top of the seventh as the Blazers came away with the 4-2 win. Austin, Wright and Maldonado led the Blazers in hits with two apiece. Ashley Mottola got her second start of the season in the circle giving up four hits and two runs. Mottola also got the win improving here record to 2-0.

Jessica Pocorello led the Generals in hits with two of their four in the contest. Jamie Gradney got the start in the circle allowing nine hits and four runs.

Game Two
LSU-Alexandria put up one run on one hit in the top of the first inning. The run came off an Allison LaCombe single up the middle to bring in Jennifer Erwin for the score giving the Generals an early 1-0 lead. The Blazers brought their first run home in the bottom of the second when Lizzy Hess singled to the shortstop rounding in Kayla Maldonado to tie the score at 1-1.

The Generals turned in two more runs in the top of the fourth beginning with an Andrea Langley single to left field that sent in Morgan Allain. Calla Willoughby hit a double to left field rounding in Langley for the run giving the LSU-A 3-1 advantage. The Blazers rallied in the bottom of the fourth with five hits and five runs to pull in front. Rian O'Bannon singled to left allowing Christina Jaques and Lizzy Hess to score followed by an Annalee Carr double that's chased home Hess. CeCee Austin then hit her ninth homerun of the season plating Carr for a 6-3 Blazers lead.

Jessica Pocorello hit a homerun bringing in Jennifer Erwin cutting the Blazers lead to one at 6-5. In the bottom of the 6th Christina Jaques stepped up and hit her 7th homerun of the year giving the Blazers a two run lead at 7-5. The Generals weren't able to put up any runs in the top of the 7th giving the Blazers the 7-5 win.

Chelsea Randle, Jaques, O'Bannon and Hess led the Blazers in hits with two apiece. Rebecca Rousseau pitched all seven innings for the Blazers giving up eleven hits and five runs. Rousseau's win-loss record is now 12-3.Allison LaCombe led the Generals in hits with three in the contest. Courtney Kennedy started in the circle for the Generals allowing seven hits and five runs.

The Blazers are now 36-8 on the season and will now travel to Mobile, AL to take on Southern States Athletic Conference opponent Spring Hill College on Friday. The first pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
