Blazers Upend AUM Saturday Afternoon

Montgomery, AL- The Belhaven women's softball team got back on track Saturday afternoon defeating Auburn University Montgomery in a double header after dropping four straight contests in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The Blazers defeated the Senators 1-0 in the first contest and 3-1 in the second game.

Game One
The entire game was a close one as the Blazers turned in two hits and tallied the only run of the game. The run came in the top of the 4th off a CeeCee Austin homerun giving her seven on the season. Annalee Carr was the only other Blazer with a hit in the contest. Sarah Burns pitched a complete game giving up only two hits in the contest with no runs allowed. The win increased Burns win-loss record to 21-3.

Ashton Nelson and Rachel Stuart led the Senators in hits with one apiece. Brandi Richards started in the circle pitching all seven innings giving up one run off two hits. Richards suffered her fourth loss of the season making her 11-4.

Game Two
The Blazers heated up in the second game combining for 12 hits and 3 runs. The first run came in the top of the second as Rachel Wright scored on a Brandi Richards wild pitch. The Blazers held a 1-0 advantage until the bottom of the fourth when the Senators tied the score up at 1-1. Taylor Saint scored on a throwing error by catcher Katie Sanders.

The Blazers scored two runs in extra innings off of three hits. Katie Sanders singled to left rallying in Rebecca Rousseau giving the Blazers a 2-1 lead. A passed ball allowed Rachel Wright to score pushing the edge to 3-1. The Senators weren't able to tie the score up in the bottom of the eighth giving Belhaven the win.

Christina Jaques and Rachel Wright led the Blazers in hits with three apiece. Sarah Burns pitched all eight innings allowing one run and two hits. Burns got the win in the circle improving her record to 22-3. Driggers and Stuart led the Senators in hits with one apiece. Brandi Richards started in the circle giving up 12 hits and 3 runs.

The Blazers are now 34-8 on the season and 8-6 in SSAC play. Belhaven will now take on non-conference opponent Louisiana State University-Alexandria at Freedom Ridge Park Tuesday at 3:00 PM.
