Blazers Overtake Indiana Tech. University

Jackson, MS-The Belhaven softball team defeated the Indiana Institute of Technology Thursday afternoon in both games of a doubleheader at Freedom Ridge Park. In the first contest the Blazers won with the final score of 6-0 while taking the second game 9-2. The Blazers put up ten hits and six runs in game one and eleven hits and nine runs in game two.

Game 1
The Blazers scored all six runs of the contest in the bottom of sixth inning. Christiana Jaques scored off an Annalee Carr single. CeeCee Austin then hit a single to right center to bring in Rian O'Bannon for the score. Rachel Wright hit a 2 RBI single bringing in CeeCee Austin and Annalee Carr for the runs giving the Blazers a 4-0 advantage. Katie Sanders then hit a 2 RBI single bringing in Rebecca Rousseau and Rachel Wright making the score 6-0.

Jaques, O'Bannon, and Austin led the Blazers in hits with two apiece while Sanders and Wright both had 2 RBIs in the contest. Sarah Burns pitched all seven innings giving up five hits and no runs. Burns improves her win-loss record to 8-2. Jenn Anderson led the Warriors in hits with two. Dani Campbell started and finished in the circle for the Warriors giving up ten hits and six runs.

Game 2
Indiana Tech. University put up the first run of the game in the top of the 1st inning on an unearned run from a Sanders error. The Blazers countered the run with two runs in the bottom of the 1st from a CeeCee Austin sac fly bringing in O'Bannon from third base. Annalee Carr then scored a run by stealing home making the score 2-1. The Blazers then turned in three runs on four hits in the bottom of the second. O'Bannon singled to center bringing in Lizzy Hess for the run. Austin then hit a two RBI single to bring in O'Bannon and Jaques giving the Blazers a 5-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the fourth the Blazers put up three runs as Annalee Carr hit her third home run of the season. Austin then followed Carr with another homerun to give the Blazers an 8-1 lead. The Warriors scored a run in the top of the fifth as Martika Armstead hit a single to second to bring in Callie Busch for the score. The Blazers countered the score off an error by the second baseman to score an unearned run as Kayla Maldonado crossed the plate making the score 9-2.

Annalee Carr led the Blazers in hits with three. Rousseau started in the circle pitching five innings giving up six hits and two runs. Rousseau improved her win loss record to 5-1. Martika Armstead led the Warriors in hits with two. Brittany Bingham pitched three innings suffering the loss allowing eleven hits and nine runs.


The Blazers improve their record to 13-3 and are set to take part in the Belhaven Bash Tournament weather permitting on Friday.
