Marion, AL-The Belhaven softball team added two more wins to their win total Tuesday afternoon taking both games of a non-conference doubleheader at Judson College. The Blazers, ranked 9th in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, won game one in five innings 10-1 and picked up an 11-0 win in the second game of the day.
Game One
Belhaven (30-4) scored five of their 10 runs in the first two innings of game one to take control of the contest.
Christina Jaques singled, stole second base and third base before coming in on a squeeze bunt by
Rian O'Bannon. Jaques would combine to steal four bases in the two games and now has a team high 28 on the season. In the second inning,
Kayla Maldonado,
Lizzy Hess, and O'Bannon all had RBI singles while
Katie Sanders drove in a run on a sacrifice fly extending the lead to 5-0.
Belhaven topped the game off by scoring five more times in the fourth inning thanks to seven hits.
Emily Tucker,
CeCee Austin, Jaques and O'Bannon picked up RBI singles and
Annalee Carr plated a run on a sacrifice bunt. Judson would avoid the shutout in the bottom of the fourth when Greenhaw drew a bases loaded walk from relief pitcher
Jessica Paris.
Sarah Burns started the game for Belhaven and pitched the first three innings without giving up a run while striking out six opposing hitters. Burns improved to 18-2 on the season with the win and has now recorded 132 strikeouts in 2011. Paris pitched two innings and gave up one run on two hits.
O'Bannon had a big game at the plate collecting two hits and three runs batted in for Belhaven in game one. Hess, Maldonado, Austin, and Jaques all had two hits and an RBI each.
Rachel Wright also produced two hits in three trips to the plate followed by Carr and Tucker with one hit each.
Mathew took the loss for Judson pitching all five innings allowing 10 runs on 14 hits. Kendrick and Graff had the only hits in the game for the Eagles.
Game Two
Belhaven didn't get on the board until the third inning in game two as Tucker and Jaques produced back to back doubles to put the Blazers in front 1-0. Belhaven did not score again until the sixth inning when Carr doubled in a run and Austin bunted in Carr to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Blazer bats then exploded in the seventh inning for eight runs to put the game out of reach. Tucker, Jaques, Austin, and Maldonado all had RBI base hits while
Chelsea Randle doubled in two more runs. The other two runs were produced on an RBI groundout off the bat of Wright and then Maldonado came in on a wild pitch. Graff also committed a key error for Judson opening the door for a big inning.
Rebecca Rousseau (11-2) started and pitched the first six innings giving up four hits while striking out four en route to the win.
Samantha Massoth finished the game by tossing a scoreless seventh frame. Massoth did not surrender a hit and struck out one Judson hitter.
Jaques went 4 for 4 at the plate with two doubles, a triple, and two runs batted in. Carr was 3 for 4 at the dish including a double and an RBI. Maldonado had a perfect game at the plate notching three hits in three at bats with a double, RBI, and two runs scored. Austin had a hit and two RBI's while Wright picked up a hit and one run batted in. Not to be outdone, Tucker had two hits including a double and RBI while Randle ripped a double and drove in two runs. As a team, Belhaven had 17 hits with six doubles and a triple.
Liveoak pitched all seven innings for Judson and took the loss allowing 11 runs on 17 hits. Only five of the 11 runs ended up being earned. Graff was 2 for 3 with a double for the Eagles.
