Alexandria, LA-The Belhaven softball team went on the road Monday afternoon and swept a doubleheader from LSU-Alexandria. The Blazers, ranked 12th in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Poll, won game one of the day 9-1 in five innings and then came back for a 10-1 five inning victory in the second game to go to 25-3 on the season.
Game One
Belhaven was led by Annalee Carr in the first game as she went 3 for 4 at the plate with two more home runs giving her 11 on the season. Carr, who is the NAIA National Player of the Week, also drove in five runs and scored two more on top of it. Lizzy Hess also played well in game one going 2 for 2 with two runs batted in. Christina Jaques had one hit and 2 RBI's while CeCee Austin also picked up two hits in three at bats.
Rebecca Rousseau earned the win pitching five innings to go to 10-1 this season. Rousseau allowed only one run on six hits while striking out three. Ashley Mottola tossed one inning and struck out one.
Marquita Boulden was 2 for 3with a run scored to pace LSUA at the plate. Jessica Pocorello also had two hits and Jennifer Erwin had one hit and the only General RBI. Jamie Gradney took the loss pitching six innings allowing nine runs on 12 hits.
Game Two
The Blazers picked up another round tripper in game two of the day as Christina Jaques blasted her sixth of the year. Jaques was officially one for two at the plate with four runs batted in. Carr and Austin each had three hits with Austin contributing two runs batted in. Carr chipped in with another RBI giving her six in the two games combined. Kayla Maldonado and Lizzy Hess both played well with three hits and Sander notched two hits in the contest. Maldonado and Sanders had one RBI and Hess drove in two runs in game two.
Sarah Burns pitched three innings and notched her team leading 14th win improving to 14-2. Burns gave up one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Samantha Massoth logged one inning allowing two hits and Jessica Paris pitched one inning without giving up a hit while striking out two.
Boulden had a hit and an RBI followed by Kennedy, Alyssa White, and Trahan with one hit apiece. Kennedy gave up all 10 runs on 18 hits with a walk and three strikeouts en route to the loss.
Belhaven will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon as they take on Spring Hill College in a Southern States Athletic Conference West Division game beginning at 3:00 PM.
